Psychological Resources is devoted to helping people who suffer emotionally or neuropsychologically as a result of a physical trauma. In addition to their physical injuries, many people who suffer a physical trauma can and do carry the burden of significant psychological and neuropsychological injury.

For many years, the connection between an accident and emotional anguish was not understood . Only recently has this connection been firmly established. Recent studies show that some seven percent (7%) of the population has experienced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Even today, research is only beginning to prove that whiplash can cause a mild traumatic brain injury.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can also result from the mere witnessing of a devastating and frightening scene. In fact, a close relative within the "zone of danger" may develop such symptoms, even if that individual has not been harmed. Further, it has been induced by persons suffering from experiences including sexual harassment. Because of our experience treating such patients, our doctors have been called on by attorneys, both representing plaintiffs and representing defense to render expert opinion as to the existence and extent of these injuries.

Symptoms of post traumatic distress can include such neuropsychological symptoms as cognitive disfunction, numbness, tingling and headaches or such emotional responses as irritability, anxiety, depression, stress and mood changes. For some, travel, even short distances, can be a painful, frightening experience. At Psychological Resources, we evaluate, by means of psychological and neuropsychological tests and then meet with the patient to discuss the results and to plan a therapeutic program. Our doctors have had years of experience helping people who suffer from these all too often devastating events.
